Sindhu Degree College for Women celebrated the 8th National Handloom Day on August 7, 2023. The theme announced by the government was“To Build the Income of Indian Weavers” to reflect on the invaluable contributions of these artisans to our economy, society, and identity as a nation.
The handloom sector has been a source of livelihood for millions of people, fostering rural employment and empowering countless communities.
Beyond its economic significance, the handloom industry embodies sustainability and eco-friendliness. The use of natural fibres and dyes promotes environmental conservation, making it a beacon of responsible craftsmanship in a world increasingly concerned about our planet's well-being. This occasion also serves as a reminder of our responsibility to preserve and promote our handloom heritage.
Ms. Sai Shivani, Assistant Professor from Department of Economics was the convenor for this event and the effort she has put into encouraging and motivating the students was fabulous. She has planned this beautiful event in short notice to make our Sindhu students aware of the importance of different specialities of handloom weaving from different states and has trained the students to present it in the most beautiful way.
Finally, nothing would be possible if the students didn't come forward. Special appreciation to all the B.Com final year students who have shown keen interest in supporting their faculty Ms Sai Shivani and taking these celebrations to the next level, making it a grand success. All the beautiful girls look even more beautiful in these handloom sarees, showcasing the beauty of our rich Indian heritage and keeping the spirit high by promoting our culture and supporting it to the fullest.
All the participants have gained the knowledge of different varieties of our famous handloom sarees from different parts of Telangana
